How many devices can I have on a single SCSI Chain?

SCSI has provisions for 16 IDs per channel, but cabling limitations of parallel SCSI allow reliable operations of no more than 3-4 devices on a single chain. Note that this limits number of cabled connections; enclosures capable of multiple devices will count as 1 device for this purpose.
